The terrible declaration of verse 20 that not one member of the human family, however good and beautiful morally, at least they think, can procure by meritorious efforts a Righteousness that God will accept, and the added statement that the Law of Moses was given not to enable man to furnish himself with this needed Righteousness, but to make him conscious that he was a sinner, and therefore unrighteous—this terrible pronouncement destroys all hope of Salvation
